Alaida smiles and nods to Katlynn. "Of course, Craftsecond. " then she tilts her head to look up at Jalar. She ahems softly, bowing her head to hide the flush on her cheeks.
Jenna comes out of the caverns, nervously smoothing the folds of the gown she is wearing. She heads for the serving table after a moment, to get the largest mug of juice she can find.
The harper corp finally sets up and then launches into a merry and festive tune to celebrate the joys of a good Hatching ... and birthing!
"Yep," K'ryn answers, coming to join the Craftsecond. "I had to say a few words to the candidates, that got left on the sands." He grins, shortly after. "Miss me? Having fun? S'been a while since I've seen you."
Mh'al takes a deep gulp of his klah, relaxing back in his chair as he observes unknown faces quietly from his corner.
Jalar turns to Alaida, "How was the view from the ledges?"
Alaida looks up at Jalar and murmurs. "Do you need to do your duty? I don't wish to keep you away from it. " She pauses at his question, then smiles. "As strange as it felt the first time at Telgar but at least I didn't cry. "
"Why would I miss -you- K'ryn m'dear?" Katlynn's just short of snickering at the young man, grinning widely at him from behind her glass. "It must have been oh /turns/ since you've come to pay a visit to the Hall. It's just not the same without you.." Lashes are fluttered, and then she slips into an easy smile. "A few months at least. It's good to see you. Nice hatching."
Rodric bows to the Master Vintner as their conversation concludes and he steps away from the wine, bearing away a glass with him. He pauses briefly by Jalar to murmur something to the apprentice, before mingling into the crowd, nodding and smiling and presenting the Harper's greetings with all due charm and politeness.
Milque takes a moment and then goes to get herself a mug of klah, and then she slips out with it into the night.
Mansi comes up the steps from the Inner Caverns.
Mansi has arrived.
Milque heads out the cavernous entrance to the bowl.
Milque has left.
Mansi heads out the cavernous entrance to the bowl.
Mansi has left.
"If it's not been the same without me... then, hah, you must miss me." That's what K'ryn decides, at any rate. Grinning, "It's good to have you here, of course, and hatchings are always good, I think. Better when they're here at home, of course.
Jenna downs half her juice in a few large gulps and then begins to thread her way through the crowd, nodding politely to the unfamiliar faces. A couple of youngsters, excited and up late, dart right in her path, knocking an arm. Unfortunately, the mug goes up, back... and with it, most of its contents. Right towards the Masterharper and his newly aquired wine.
Jalar nods as the Masterharper speaks to him quietly. He smiles and nods, "Yes, sir. Thank you, Masterharper."
Alaida raises an eyebrow, watching Rodric, then turns to Jalar curiously.
Mh'al takes another sip of his klah, watching various people around the cavern.
Katlynn has to be mature on occasions such as this, so she simply simpers a pathetic little smile at K'ryn, lowering her lashes and biting at her bottom lip. "Oh you totally found me out K'ryn. I miss you so much I've been pining for you ever since your last visit." She almost chokes on her sip of wine however - clearly she's simply teasing. A brow goes up, up, up, and she turns, to get a better view ot the Masterharper, and the mug's contents headed toward him.
As he winds his way between bodies, Rodric walks past a young lady with a rather full juice mug. A jostle in the crowd and suddenly, the Masterharper is being showered with juice and his wine turned into something far less like wine, and much more like someone's idea of a bad summer drink. He lets out a short yelp of surprise as chill liquid slides down his collar.
Jenna calls to the kids, "Hey, watch it!" Annoyed, she turns to retrieve the mug, only to be confronted with, "Ohmyshellsandshards! I'm *so* sorry sir. I didn't see them." Turning beet red under her blonde hair, and without so much as a kerchief, she starts to lift the hem of her skirt to swipe ineffectually at the spots developing. At least it's clean. Mortified she asks, "I didn't soak you all through, did I?"
Jalar grins widely, "My set comes later. For now, though. I'm under orders to ask you to dance with me."
As if on queue, the Harpers start playing another quick tempo song with lots of bouncey pipes and a strong drum beat.
K'ryn sticks his tongue out at Katlynn. "Oh, quiet you. I'd come and visit, but I've been busy here with the candidates, with my wing, hell, with a baby on the way. But really, I'll try to come by. Maybe you can get me another set of baby clothes. The last bunch went over great." Then he spots out Jenna, and her little accident.
Alaida giggles suddenly, smiling to Jalar. "Well... you going to ask then? "
Langley comes in from the bowl.
Langley has arrived.
Jalar smiles and makes a grand bow, "Madam Rider, may this lowly Apprentice Harper have the pleasure of a dance with you?" He remains nearly doubled over, looking up and awaiting a reply.
Rodric blinks at the girl, eyes focusing in on her face, and then the hands lifting her skirt in place of a kerchief. He puts a hand out lightly toward the girl's arm. "Stay, stay ... don't use your gown!" he says laughingly and looks down at his vest. "Thankfully good strong wherhide stands up to most liquids fairly well my dear ... however I'm afraid that that which went down my back is going to cause severe damage to my dignity, as it tickling frightfully." He moves his shoulders slightly with a grimace.
The harper's tune continues bouncy and light, good for a sprightly dance ... if such is desired.
Katlynn simply stares wide-eyed at Rodric and the young woman trying to mop him up. "Oh my." Just that, and she promptly bursts out laughing. "Well, you don't see -that- everyday." But oh, K'ryn's sticking his tongue out, and that requires her attention. Blue eyes roll at the Fort rider, before she's back to nodding. "Mm-hmm.." Blink. "Baby? Gee, you get around."
Fashionably late or something, Langley comes in whilst removing her riding gloves and falling almost immediately into step with the music. "I wonder if this is what it was like at Ista after ours," remarks the greenrider bemusedly.
Alaida smiles to Jalar, blushing a bit and raises her hand for him to take. "Jalar, stop that. You are never lowly in my eyes. " she comments softly with a twinkle in her eyes.
Jenna couldn't get any more crimson. She rivals a Boll sunset as it is. "The gown'll wash, sir. At least let me get you some towels or something? I'm *so* sorry. I should've been holding on tighter. If you like, I can launder the tunic, have it back to you tomorrow morning? I'll run it down first thing, and get you something else to wear meantimes." The words come tumbling out in a rush, as she looks around desperately for help or towels or the floor to open up and swallow her.
Mathex, conducting the quick-tempo'd aire with baton movements that are practically imperceptible, barely seems to be paying attention to the Harpers he conducts. His attention, in general, is on the crowd, simply watching them.
Jalar stands and takes Alaida's hand. Still smiling, he leads off to a clear area where the dancing has started. "Just giving you the respect and honor that befits your station ... and your beauty."
"Hmph. Get around? We've been more or less together for quite some time now..." K'ryn shrugs, still smiling. "Would you do me the honor of another set, perhaps? When the time rolls around?" And then, finally, he seems lured into bailing out his friend, rushing over to help Jenna. "Shards, what happened? Everyone ok?"
Rodric holds out his wineglass toward Jenna. "If you would ... I think a refill of wine and a fresh tunic are definitely in order -- I don't think that most of the fine people here will appreciate a ... what juice was that anyway? -- scented Masterharper." He brushes a few drops of liquid beading on the leather of his overtunic. "But please -- better that one of us should retain her finery in a mostly pristine state eh?"
Mh'al smiles lightly, watching Jenna and Rodric for a moment before returning his attention to his mug of klah.
Langley passes just in time to catch the exchange between Alaida and Jalar, and her nose creases up almost immediately. "Mmhm," she comments, skirting by a table to find some place for sitting. A curious peer goes toward the red-faced Jenna and she sits down not too far off from Mh'al, for lack of a more convenient locale.
"Oh.. well, congratulations then." Katlynn offers with genuinly pleasant smile to K'ryn, nodding her head. "Sure, I'll do another set.." And a little wave of her fingers, as he sets off. Turning then, she peers into her glass--stops somebody for a refill--then strolls across to a table, just happening to flop into a seat nearby Langley. "Hello, lovely hatching, wasn't it?"
Cloretta comes in from the bowl.
Cloretta has arrived.
Rodric cocks a glance upward as K'ryn approaches. "Yes, yes ... a bit of juice, nothing worse -- though if your Headperson could spare me a fresh tunic perhaps ...?" he trails off, with another harperly smile.
Jenna's face is still flaming hot enough to sear thread. On the heels of Rodric's response she mutters, "K'ryn, Help! I tried to drown the Masterharper. F'ren'll never let me out of the weyr to run messages to the Hall again." A bit louder, she says quickly, "Citron. It was citron. What were you drinking, sir, and I'll get you a glass, and a clean tunic and be right back, I promise, sir. Clear out a guest room for you to change in. Just talk to Norri. I'll wash it myself and have it back to you first thing tomorrow. Make sure it doesn't stain..."
Langley smiles to the woman next to her and says honestly, "I don't know. I missed the entire thing, actually. Was it?" She looks first at Katlynn's glass, almost thoughtful, then takes a better look at the whole package. "I think that's one of the loveliest blouses I've ever seen - " She sneaks a peek at the knot. " - Master. Ista's duties to the Weaverhall, by the way."
Mh'al tilts his head at Langley inquistively for a moment, letting a smile pass over his face as he finishes the rest of his klah.
Alaida blushes, smiling as she walks with Jalar to the dancing area. "I know, Jalar. " she murmurs softly.
Couples flood the open space for dancing, moving in time to the beat.
V'lin comes in from the bowl.
V'lin has arrived.
Cloretta skips up into the Living Cavern looking sleepy, "She gets to sleep and I still haven't eaten dinner yet.. Ugh.. my hands smell like oil.." she sighs in resignation and makes her way towards the meal table.
V'lin saunters in, still a bit sandy and rumpled looking. Anyone who was watching the sands would have seen his somewhat belated entrance. He moves right for the food.
"First thing, Jenna, is that you calm down a bit, hmm? Take a few breaths." K'ryn glances toward the Masterharper, and smiles, then. "Good, good, as long as there was no permanent damage. And I'm sure Jenna'll be able to find you something."
A piper amongst the Harpers, at an appropriate movement in the music, stands up and reels out an impressive 'solo', improvising on the main theme of the music while the rest of the instruments modulate their volume a tick or two downwards. Mathex doesn't bat an eyelash, keeping time with the baton.
Jalar takes Alaida's right hand in his left and puts his right arm carefully around her waist, but not too far. There's a tiny gap between them. He matches the music's rhythm with his left hand. "Ready?" he asks Alaida. and after a few quick beats he steps out on the down

"Ready?" he asks Alaida. There are a few quick beats he steps out on the downbeat, leading her around the floor.
Rodric follows Jenna's sequence of pronouncements with head bobbing slightly up and down. "Ah, citron ... yes that -will- get sticky," he says and wrinkles his nose a little. Perhaps some water for washing as well?" he says with a slight plaintiveness in his voice. "But I assure you, young lady, I am far from drowned. A bit of a wash, and a change of clothes ... and of course, some more of that excellent Benden and I'll be right as rain."
Katlynn bats her lashes at Langley in an overly comical manner, as she smooths out the non-existant crinkles in her blouse. "Why thank-you. I made it myself." There's just a hint of pride in that, but it's clear she's simply informing the woman as to the blouse's origins. "And Weaver's to lovely Ista. It was a nice hatching, indeed."
Jenna nods so vigorously to K'ryn's statement that her head seems about ready to fall off her neck. Already a well-meaning drudge is coming to her aid - or is it the Master's aid? - with a load of towels. "Yessir. Water and a clean tunic and some more Benden." She whirls away to start her mission and then flips back, skirts flying, "White or red, sir?"
Mh'al smiles over to Cloretta. "Well, you'll get use to the smell of oil... taste too." He grimaces at the thought.
Cloretta looks over and beams, "Mh'al? What are you doing here?!"
Rodric clears his throat -- are his eyes twinkling more than usual? -- Perhaps, but all he says, quite steadily, is: "Red please."
Langley's eyes trail after Cloretta with a little sympathy in the look. "Wait till the meat chopping," she tacks on after Mh'al's more sage advice, then nods back to the Weaver. "I figured you must have. It's really very nice. A fri - " Cough. "A bluerider and I came down to your Hall not so long ago for commissions. I wish I'd have seen that blouse then."
Mh'al chuckles softly. "To watch you and the others from 'Reaches Impress. That's a good enough reason, no?"
Cloretta snorts, "Please." she rolls her eyes and carefully fingers her new knot with a bit of pride, "Did you feel like this when you Impressed Sidonth?"
Katlynn's nose crinkles in obvious distaste at the mention of chopping meat. "That just sounds...awful." Her wine is sipped at, slowly, enough to simply savour the taste for a few long moments. And then there's a quick nod to Langley, her lips spreading into a bright smile. "Well, I could always make you one of a similar design. I'm afraid I must have missed your visit to the Hall.. I'm always cooped up with hides."
Mh'al scratches at his cheek for a moment. "I felt a lot of things.. but the most prevalent was feeling like you were on top of the world."
Cloretta giggles, "Yep, that's the feeling.. that and tired. It isn't fair. she got to eat and now sleep, and I haven't even eaten today!"
Once Jenna and Rodric seem to have their problem settled, K'ryn starts back toward Katlynn, waving at Langley, as well, as he finds her in Katlynn's company. "Well, that was a small disaster, luckily avoided. G'evenin'." The latter for the rider.
Alaida smiles and nods to Jalar even as she holds his hand with her tiny one. She truely is a small girl even while standing next to Jalar. She moves closer to him, almost too close to be considered casual dancing but she doesn't seem to care while she moves lightly across the floor, obviously use to dancing with Jalar to the point where she just sways in his arms.
Mh'al smiles brightly. "Stop talking to me then, and get yourself something to eat. There's a lot more available since it's a post-Hatching celebration."
Langley says as if apologetically, "It wasn't a very formal visit, Master. We just came to see if we couldn't get a few things thrown together. I'll come back some time, though, and maybe take you up on that offer?" Clothes are her vice, after all. She adds a wave to K'ryn as well, tacking on the appropriate, "Ista's duties. I heard it was a very nice Hatching." She defers to Katlynn for that matter.
Cloretta snorts, "Fine, but I'll be back.. " with that she disappears into the crowd in search of better things to do.. Like eat. Eating is good.
V'lin fills a plate with food, settling into a seat near some of the weyrlings that have no family able to visit tonight.
Jenna nods to Rodric and gives K'ryn another one of those paniced looks as she heads off in a flurry again. A moment, and she's over talking animatedly with one of the Headwoman's assistants. The poor woman takes pity on her, and heads over to the Masterharper with a new glass of wine. By the time she makes it to his side to announce, "Jenna's gone to get you something, sir. Shouldn't be long-" the sparsely fleshed girl is back hissing faintly at her name beaing repeated, "First guest room on the right down the hall when you're ready sir." To the assistant she murmurs, "Don't say who I am again. Maybe he won't remember!"
Mathex, baton twitching the time, makes a slight circle with the tip, and the solo ends. The volume swells once more, the group performing going into the final sequence -- which'll take a good couple of minutes yet. The director, however, keeps his gaze roaming across the dancers and the celebrating folk beyond.
Katlynn raps her fingernails against the table in front of her, idly it seems, as her eyes scan the crowd. Picking out Alaida and Jalar, she comments, to those closest - being K'ryn and Langley - "They make a sweet couple, don't they? Shame Alaida's so tiny." After a couple more sips of wine, she murmurs faintly, "It was a lovely hatching, yes." Along with a nod for the Istan rider, "Next time your Boll-way, come see me and I'll see what I can do."
Mh'al smiles amusedly, peering into his empty mug with a forlorn expression.
Cloretta returns and peers at Mh'al, cocking her head to the side, "Did you want more, sir?"
Rodric inclines his head toward the headwoman's assistant. "Thank you kindly," he says, taking the wine and retreating a little bit toward a chair to lean against. He takes a good long drink, then lifts his brows as Jenna returns. "Ahh, yes ... first on the right ... yes I shall take advantage of your most kind hospitality shortly, Jenna is it?" Yes, he caught the name.
Langley bats a hand toward the Harper-greenrider duo and says, "I'm sick and tired of them." She doesn't even glance that way, but instead nods happily to Katlynn. "Most definitely. I might even invite Jai. She's a little on the fat side and could use some good clothes to help hide it," she confides, none too confidentially.
Mansi comes in from the bowl.
Mansi has arrived.
Mh'al smirks up at Cloretta. "I probably would like some wine now. Is there any 'skins of Benden Red lying about?"
"And Fort's to Ista. It was, yes, but as I'm fond of telling the Craftsecond, here, there's really no such thing as a bad hatching. Save when someone's badly injured, but even that, it's often hard to avoid." Then K'ryn turns to observe the pair as well. "I suppose."
Jenna nods, still looking as though she'd like the floor to swallow her. "Yessir. Again, I'm *really* sorry. I'll have the tunic back first thing tomorrow. In fact, I'll go get the water ready right now. If you'll excuse me then, sir?" She doesn't wait for an answer, still utterly mortified, and slips through the crowd, on a mission once again.
You walk down the stairs, into the Inner Caverns.
